Italy furious after Charlie Hebdo caricature depicts quake victims as pasta & lasagna

The Muslim Times

Source: RT

Italian politicians and the public are fuming over a “disgusting” satirical cartoon published by controversial French weekly Charlie Hebdo, which made fun of the victims of an earthquake that left nearly 300 people dead and obliterated entire towns.

Charlie Hebdo, which made headlines in 2015 after a terrorist attack that followed the publication of a series of controversial Mohammad cartoons, has just released another controversial satire.

he cartoon titled “Earthquake Italian Style” compared the quake victims with typical dishes of the country. The caricature showed a man covered in blood standing with a sign over his head reading “penne in tomato sauce.” The poor fellow is depicted next to a badly injured woman survivor who is labeled “penne au gratin.” The icing on the satirical image shows people squashed in the rubble with feet sticking out between the floors of a collapsed building with the sign reading“Lasagna”.

Really really stunning information.

Source – truthandshadows.wordpress.com

“…As Pepper explains, King was not only hated by the establishment as he rose to prominence in the 1960s, he was feared. Not only did he have the ability to move large numbers of people with his message of peace and tolerance, but he had designs on a political career. According to Pepper, King was planning to run for president on a third-party ticket with fellow anti-war activist Dr. Benjamin Spock. He was also causing panic in powerful circles because he intended to bring hundreds of thousands of poor people to an encampment in Washington, D.C. in the spring of 1968 to bring attention to the plight of the poor”:

Saudi Arabia tightens up hajj planning to avoid repeat of 2015 disaster

The Muslim Times

Source: The Guardian

A year after the worst hajj disaster in a generation, Saudi Arabia is issuing pilgrims with electronic bracelets and using more surveillance cameras to avoid a repeat of the crush that killed hundreds of people and damaged already strained ties with Iran.

The Muslim pilgrimage, which starts on Friday and will bring 2 million people to Islam’s most sacred sites in Mecca, will also be a focus of concerns about militant violence after a suicide bomber killed four soldiers in early July in the nearby city of Medina, Islam’s second holiest.

Custodian of Islam’s most revered places, Saudi Arabia stakes its reputation on organising hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, which every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to is obliged to undertake at least once in their lifetime.

Its prestige was damaged by the 2015 disaster, in which Riyadh said 769 pilgrims were…

Angela Merkel’s CDU ‘suffers Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania poll blow’

The Muslim Times

Source: BBC

Angela Merkel’s ruling CDU party has been beaten into third place by an anti-immigrant and anti-Islam party in elections in a north-eastern German state, TV exit polls suggest.

The Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD) party took 21.4% of the vote behind the centre-left SPD’s 30.2%.

The German chancellor’s CDU was supported by only 19.8% of those who voted, according to the exit polls.

The vote was seen as a key test before German parliamentary elections in 2017.

Before the vote in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, all of Germany’s other parties ruled out forming a governing coalition with the AfD.

However, the party’s strong showing could weaken Mrs Merkel ahead of the national elections next year.

Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, in the former East Germany, is where the chancellor’s own constituency is located.

Under her leadership, Germany has been taking in large numbers of refugees and migrants – 1.1 million last year – and…
