Luke 4 has Jesus filled with the Holy Spirit after being baptized in the Jordan by John the Baptist. He has just made a very visible and public declaration of faith, and God made a very public statement about Jesus being His Son with whom He was well pleased. The enemy loves to take on those who claim God as their own. So Jesus spends 40 days in the desert “being tempted by the devil”. Satan didn’t wait long to attack the humanity of Christ. He immediately ‘threw the book at Him’ in regard to temptation.
Satan’s attack is predictable and continues to be the approach he uses today. He went after Jesus in three areas that all man is susceptible in:
